Quick answer

Is an AI receptionist worth it for a 1-truck plumber?

A direct answer using published prices and break-even math. Use your own numbers; the examples are placeholders.

Short answer

Often yes, if you regularly miss calls while you are on a job and cannot call back quickly. The entry plans we checked cost $29 to $149 per month, so at a $350 average job a plan only has to win back one job a month that you would otherwise lose to cover its price. It is probably not worth it if you rarely miss calls, or you already return every missed call within minutes. We have not tested these tools; prices below are from vendor pages checked October 24 to 26, 2026.

Jobs needed per month to cover the plan

PlanPriceAt $200 avg jobAt $350 avg jobAt $500 avg job
Jobber Receptionist add-on (plus your Jobber plan)$29/mo0.140.080.06
Rosie Professional$49/mo0.240.140.10
My AI Front Desk (monthly)$99/mo0.490.280.20
Rosie Scale (live transfers, direct booking)$149/mo0.740.430.30

Plan price divided by average job value. This covers revenue, not profit: if your margin on a job is 40%, you need about 2.5 times as many jobs to cover the plan from profit. Worked example (made-up numbers, use your own)

Say you get 25 calls a week, miss 20% of them, 30% of answered calls become jobs, and the average job is $350. Using the same math as our missed-call calculator, that is about 22 missed calls a month and about $2,273 a month in revenue tied to them. If an AI receptionist recovered just a quarter of that, about $568, a $49 plan would leave about $519. If you only miss 2 calls a month, the same math gives about $210 a month tied to missed calls, and a quarter of that is about $53. That barely covers a $49 plan, so for you it may not be worth it. These inputs are placeholders, not data.

FAQ

Can I use an AI receptionist only after hours?

Yes. The tools we cover work through call forwarding, so you can forward only after hours or only after a set number of rings and keep answering yourself during the day.

Should the AI handle emergencies on its own?

No. An AI should collect details and route emergencies to a person, not decide them. Check that the plan you pick can text or transfer urgent calls to you.

How do I know how many calls I miss?

Check your phone carrier or phone app call log for missed and unanswered calls over a normal month. Use that number in the missed-call calculator instead of a guess.

Did AnswerVerdict test these?
